"Ohayou nya, Fuji!"
The smiling tensai turned his head to the voice. "Ohayou, Eiji." He looked at his best friend for a second, then realized something. "Where's -san? You usually come to school with her..."
"She wouldn't come to school today, nya..." the redhead answered as he put his bag. "I came to her apartment to pick her up as usual, but she said she wasn't feeling well, so she told me to go ahead, nya... I offered to help but she said she would be okay..."
"-san isn't feeling well...?" the tensai's eyes opened. "My, my... Would she be okay? I remember she told me that her parents would be going away this week, right?"
Eiji nodded. "Yeah, I remember that too, nya... I was really worried, but she kept saying she'd be alright, so..."
Fuji sighed. She was that kind of person. She always told everyone not to worry about her because she was "alright" although she really wasn't (which always made Fuji even more worried).
"Ne, Eiji..." Fuji called.
"Nya?"
"Do we have practice today?"
Eiji looked up, thought for a second, then replied, "I think so, nya..."
"Tell Tezuka I can't come today."
"Eeh?" Eiji blinked. "Why?"
Fuji only smiled. "I've got to take care of our careless -san."
Dreams
Fuji walked slowly into the lift and pressed the number 6. "Will -san be okay...?" he whispered in worry. His hands were carrying a basket of fruits, just in case she needed them.
He finally reached room #612. Slowly, he pressed the bell and waited a few seconds. No one opened the door. He pressed the bell again, yet the door still didn't open. Fuji started to get anxious.
"-san, are you insi–" he was startled when the door was opened when he pushed it. 'It's unlocked...?' "-san–"
His eyes widened.
"-san, daijoubu ka?!" he rushed in when he saw a body, lying wan and fragile on the floor.
"Fuji... kun...?" she murmured when Fuji took her to her bed. "Am I... dreaming...?"
"No, -san, it's me," Fuji said as he slowly placed the girl on her bed. "Why didn't you tell me you were this sick? Me and Eiji could have come earlier to help you."
She shook her head. "I've told Eiji I'd be okay... If you and Eiji came, you'd miss school for today... I'm not that sick anyway..."
Fuji sighed. He placed his right hand on her forehand. "-san, you're really warm! Have you taken any medicine?" nodded weakly. "Have you eaten anything?" She, again, nodded weakly. "Wait a second ne, I'll take your temperature," he said as he took a thermometer from his backpack, which he borrowed from Inui. Yes, it was amazing, the fact that Inui seemed to bring a lot of useful things to school everyday. "Let's see..." he looked at the thermometer, shocked. "39.2 degrees?!"
"See? I'm o–"
"-san, 39.2 degrees means you're really sick."
"But I feel–"
"Where's your kitchen? I'm going to cook you some soup," he said as he stood up.
"I'm okay, Fuji-kun. You don't have to–"
He breathed out and bent down to . He patted the girl's head, causing her face to redden. "-san, I'm worried about you. Saying that you're ‘okay' would just make me even more worried."
Trying to hide her crimson face under the blanket, she nodded embarrassedly. Not even in a dream she would imagine Fuji to be that close to her!
"Now, now," he smiled. "Where's your kitchen, -san?"
She pointed to where her kitchen was.
"Wait a second, ne," he stood and patted her head once more before going to the kitchen.
Everything happened that day was like a dream to . The fact that Fuji came to see her was already surprising in the first place, and even now he was cooking for her and taking care of her.
True, had always liked Fuji since the first grade. And since they were classmates for three straight years in junior high, they had become really good friends.
That was one of the reason didn't want to confess. She was afraid they wouldn't be friends anymore if she did.
Another reason was, of course, because he was popular. Many girls in Seigaku admired him, and they always called him "Ouji-sama". Since many beautiful girls seemed to like him a lot, chose just to stay friends with him. If he could have someone prettier than her to be his girlfriend, why would he want her? That thought stuck in her head for three years. Even when Eiji told her to just confess, she didn't listen to him.
"The soup is ready, -san," Fuji came into her room, carrying a bowl of soup.
"Aa... Arigatou..." she mumbled. Fuji placed the soup on the table beside the girl and sat down beside her. He took a spoon of the soup.
"Here, -san," he slowly brought it to her mouth. "Open your mouth."
could feel her face became warmer. "Fuji-kun, I can eat by myself–"
"That's okay."
could only do as she was told.
After eating half a bowl of the soup and took the medicine, she fell asleep. Fuji looked at his watch.
'It's only five...'
She sat beside the girl and took her right hand.
"Fuji-kun..." she mumbled. "Arigatou..." Fuji smiled.
"Get well soon, -san..."
He bent down and kissed her forehead.
"Nggg..." opened her eyes slowly. Her head felt so light suddenly. She then realized something. 'Someone's sleeping beside me...' Her eyes widened. "Fuji-kun...?"
"Ah...?" the boy beside roused. "Ah, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sleep here..."
"That–that's okay, Fuji-kun," she said as she looked aside, blushing.
Fuji stood up and peered at his watch. It was 8 pm. "Ja, I better be going home now..." He placed his hand on her forehead. "It's getting better, but you're still a bit warm..."
"Yes, I feel much better Fuji-kun, thanks to you," the girl voiced.
"But I can't afford you to be sick again tomorrow..."
She smiled. "It's okay, Fuji-kun. I'm sure I'll be alright by tomorrow morning."
"But just in case..." Fuji murmured. "-san, did you know that the best way to get rid of flu is to give it to someone else?"
blinked. "But how–"
Her heart skipped a beat. Fuji's lips were on hers.
Unable to think of anything, she slowly closed her eyes.
'It's like a dream...'
His lips were so sweet and smooth...
"I hope that helps," he whispered in her ear when he pulled away. "Ja, I'll be going, -san."
She nodded slowly as she hid her bright red face under the blanket.
opened her eyes as she heard her alarm rang. It was 6 am in the morning.
"I feel much better!" she said to herself as she jumped off from the bed and walked to the bathroom. She looked at herself in the mirror. "Yosh! I'm ready to go to school today!"
She suddenly remembered what happened last night. Her face turned a shade of red as she touched her lips. She could still feel Fuji's on those.
She smiled and decided to drop by the morning practice to say thanks to Fuji.
Just when she was finished taking a bath, the bell rung.
"Wait a minute!" she cried as she rushed to the door and opened it. "Ah, Eiji, Momo, Ooishi, ohayou," she greeted.
"Ohayou, -chan!" Eiji greeted back. "It seems that you're alright now, ne? We were worried, so we came here first to check on you, nya!"
Since was close to Eiji and Fuji, everyone in the tennis club knew her pretty well, too.
"But it's a relief that you're okay now, -san," Ooishi said.
She smiled and nodded. "Yeah, I'm good, and it all thanks to Fuji-kun..."
"Fuji-sempai...?" Momo grinned. "Now that you mention it, Fuji-sempai skipped practice yesterday to take care of you, right?" he asked with a smirk. "What were you two doing all evening?"
As she remembered what happened last night, her face reddened. "N–nothing!"
"Real-ly~?"
"Really!"
"Ah, talking about Fuji..." Eiji suddenly spoke up. "His sister just called me this morning. She said he wouldn't come to school today because he's warm."
"Fuji-kun's..." she blinked her eyes in disbelief.
"-san, did you know that the best way to get rid of flu is to give it to someone else?"
blushed.
"Ooh~?" Momo grinned teasingly. "Yesterday -sempai and now Fuji-sempai? Really, what were you two doing yesterday?"
"N–nothing!!" she replied with a bright red face.
"If you say it that way, it'll make it even more suspicious~!"
She flushed when Momo and Eiji started teasing her.
But that time, she only had one thing on her mind:
She'd come to his house to take care of him today!
